The new Sure Signal box has been launched by Vodafone with a company guarantee for results. Vodafone has said that users are assured of freedom from poor mobile phone and mobile broadband connection with this device. The box is meant to work with existing broadband connections and enhance the coverage.
The Sure Signal device consists of a small mobile phone mast that works on femtocell technology. A similar signal booster was put to trial by the company last year itself under the name Vodafone Access Gateway. The trial did not evoke much of a positive response then and a lot of users were disappointed with the performance of the product which cost them £160. However, Vodafone is very optimistic about the market response to its product this time, especially with the reduction in prices to less than one third of the original price.
The Sure Signal box establishes connection with the Vodafone network and makes use of the same to generate 3G coverage for a limited area like a small office or home. The problems faced with the last trial have been remedied as per statements from company sources.

However, doubts remain whether people living in areas where coverage is reasonably good will be willing to spend £50 for improving their signals. If not then the customer base for the Sure Signal will be severely restricted to just those who have continuous coverage problems.
