Standing out at a Career Faire can make a difference in your job hunt. Career Fairs are starting to pick up, and Dice is running some nice ones, called Targeted Job Fairs. At a SF Bay Area Career Faire in early 2010, 10 companies as showing up, and a major job search company has 82 job faires scheduled for this year across the US.

How do you rise above the crowd at a Job Fair? The contention can be sizeable, but you can help yourself stick out from the herd with early homework. At AA-Careers, we have a straight-forward 6-step process to prepare. Plan to go? Here’s how to prepare:

First, investigate the companies that are going and pick your objectives. Use the World Wide Web to research the organizations that are there before you even decide to go. Go to their web sites and see if they have their job openings posted. Pick a tenable number to go after, and get ready to spend an hour or more researching each one. It’s hard to do more than 10 in a day, and three or four is a much more reasonable target. For each hiring organization, you want to know: executive names, recent news, and key product lines. Try to see if you know anyone at the target companies. You should end up with a page or two of research for each company/job.

Second, if there are job postings on the web, read them to see what the company is looking for. Create a mapping of your accomplishments and skills to the requirements of the job. Make the nomenclature match. If the hiring organization calls customers "clients", your resume should do the same thing. The accomplishments should be written in the style of the hiring organization.

Third, create a ‘mini sales pitch’ for each potential organization/position combination. Write down a 60 second ‘thumbnail’ that you can repeat verbally depicting why you are a great candidate for that position. You’ll use this in your resume and when you meet people at the job booth.

Fourth, modify your resume for each opportunity. The objective on your resume should exactly match the position you’re want. The executive summary should be a written form of your “mini sales pitch” for the job. Then choose the achievements and skills that most clearly match the job description. Especially at a Job Faire, the purpose of your resume is a sales tool for you – to get you on-site job interviews. It should be a no-brainer to see that you’re a match based on your resume.

Fifth, dress and prepare as if you’re doing on-site interviews. Dress nicely and be properly groomed. Don’t overdress (this isn’t a date!) and don’t underdress (no jeans or t-shirts, no matter how much you paid for them). Avoid strong cologne or perfume.

Finally, practice your ‘mini-sales-pitch’. Collect your research and the resume for each opportunity - bring a couple of copies for each – and put each in a clearly tagged folder. Keep them in a lightweight briefcase or folio.

Remember to smile, and good hunting!

So setting up PC security on a budget involves usage of free antispyware, antivirus and firewall. Among free antivirus solutions you can choose from AVG (by Czech software company), Avast, Bit Defender, and some others. In the field of free antispyware the choice is limited and there are antispyware tools which are actually bundled with commercial adware and spying modules. However, SpyBot Search & Destroy is known to be a reliable solution, recommended by advanced users. Quality depends and so does the price.

This scam is very simple; the thieves simply wait until some unsuspecting user who is searching for, say, airline ticket offers, finds their site offering dirt-cheap airline tickets. Really pleased with himself and looking forward to the trip, the user fills in the form, entering his credit card number, expiry date and verification value (CVV). When you were a kid, did you do physics experiments?

I did. Even now, I can still remember how thrilled I was to see how stuff worked. But you know how it is: when you grow up, you seem to lose interest in such “childish games”.

But it was a physics experiment that made me think about business in a completely different way.

I was trying to explain my son about friction. As you know, friction exists when an object moves on a surface. The object and the surface both grind and drag against each other. The moving object loses energy and speed, and is forced to stop eventually.

To demonstrate this, I took a small wooden disc, and skid it on a (sort of) rough surface. As was to be expected, because of the friction between the disc and the surface, it soon grinded to a halt.

Then it was my son’s turn to skid the disc, but now over a smooth surface.

Naturally, the disc traveled a much larger distance.

I told him how the drag was actually keeping the disc from moving forward. And two surfaces that are smooth have much less friction than two rough surfaces. I even showed him how friction is producing heat, proving that energy was taken from the movement.

He understood. I could tell, because he told me that a much bigger driving force was needed to skid the disc the same distance over a rough surface as over a smooth surface.

Then it hit me.

I suddenly realized how this simple truth applies not only to the physical world, but also to business in general.

How this applies to your business

When a (potential) customer comes in contact to your business, she may experience a smooth ride or a rough one.

If your customer meets a friendly and curteous sales person, receives to the point information, and has an overall pleasant experience, she’s much more likely to buy. In effect, the customer travels further, completing the transaction with ease.

In contrast, when the sales person is pushy, little or no information is available on products, many customers will walk away. Some may travel the distance, but usually a much bigger drive is needed. For example, the customer gets the lowest possible price. Or a unique product they just must have.
The problem here is that a low price is just too easily met. And you may think your product is unique, but does your customer? So where does that leave you?

To maximize your chances of getting the sale, getting the customer and ultimately keeping the customer, your goal must be to supply a smooth surface for the customer to skid on.

If the customer has a smooth experience every step of the way, they will slide more easily into the sale.

Go all-out for that smooth customer experience or, as I like to call it…

The “effortless experience”

Imagine that the customer is not subjected to any friction; everything is going as smooth as possible. What would this mean for your business?

  • More sales? Yes!

  • Happy customers? Very!

  • Repeat customers? You bet!

Unfortunately, there is no world without friction. There is no “perpetual movement”.

You simply cannot control all aspects of the customer’s experience. Maybe the connection at her end is extremely slow. Or she’s having a “bad hair day”. Or there just is little drive towards your (type of) products.

But, there is still a lot you can do to make it easier for your customer and deliver an effortless experience.

Reducing the friction

The big question now is: what can you do to reduce the friction?

  • Know your customer (different customers may “slide” better on one surface versus another).

  • Anticipate her needs and wants.

  • Prepare to fulfill it as needed.

This is why I call this process “from the Outside In”. You look at your business from the outside, from the customer’s viewpoint, and adjust or define your internal processes to produce what is needed on the outside.

In other words, begin with the end in mind.

Now, remember my little physics experiment? Friction can only occur when two “objects” touch. To reduce friction, you must first identify at which points your customer touches your business.

What are your business’s Customer Connection Points? And what can be done to reduce friction there?

I was waiting for my fast-food breakfast while my cohort of four little girls scurried over the indoor Big Toy.

“They’re sure taking their time today,” grumbled the man next to me. He wasn’t talking about my granddaughters.

He was wearing a purple tee-shirt over his middle-aged paunch. A baseball cap and jeans completed the outfit. He could have been there with his grandchildren, but he was alone.

I nodded my head. I hate standing in line and really hate waiting, but I hadn’t reached my annoyance threshold, yet. Obviously, my fellow breakfaster had passed that bar.

“They wait on the drive-through customers first and make the people inside wait,” he said to me while maintaining a watchful eye behind the counter and into the kitchen area.

I nodded again and followed his gaze. The young woman, who seemed about four-foot-five, behind the counter was taking orders and was doing a good job with a friendly smile. The prep people were cooking and delivering, and yet . . . on the counter were five food trays. Each had a cash register receipt. In addition, between the trays were another two or three receipts. The young woman would take orders, fill them as best she could, and then wait for food from the kitchen, while she continued to take even more order.

A tray of goodies was handed out to someone who had been behind us. “I was here before him. This has happened to me before,” my hungry friend commented. “I was waiting for about fifteen minutes once and I complained to the waitress. She said she didn’t realize there was a problem and offered me a free meal. I told her that wasn’t the problem and pointed to all the people waiting behind me.” He shook his head in disgust, “I think I need to call corporate, again.”

I like to hear people complaining. It shows that I’m not the only one observing problems and potential problems in business.

The kernel of this fast-food breakfast story pops up repeatedly in retail and small businesses around the world. It’s a good illustration of priorities. Who comes first: the customer in front of you, or the customer who calls on the phone (or ordering on the intercom)?

It’s a juggling act that requires people handling skills. You don’t want to offend or lose either customer, but by faltering in your juggling you run the risk of losing one or the other, or both. It’s like fishing with two poles and a fish on each line. While this is enviable, the fisherman sometimes goes home hungry.

Here are some suggestions for working with multiple customers:

  • Be observant. Is everyone happy? Can anything be done for the unhappy ones?
  • Be polite. Use words and phrases like “excuse me,” “I’m sorry for the delay,” and “it’ll be just a moment.”
  • Know when to apologize and when to offer relief, “Can I get you a free coffee?”
  • Be respectful, “Excuse me, while I put you hold. I am currently helping another customer. I’ll return as soon as possible.”
  • Get help when possible.

I got my order before my friend, but then I was in line before he was. My grandkids ate, played, and then with money in hand went back for snacks as a group. One returned with an unsolicited comment, “It’s terrible over there. People are placing orders and not getting them!” Ah, yes, that’s what I like, a ten year-old complainer. She’s being raised right, I guess.

As my unhappy friend left a little while later, there were 12 people in line with the same clerk and finally another clerk joined her. Within minutes the line was gone and so where the people waiting for their orders. I wish the friendly little clerk had just asked for help a little sooner. She might have saved a customer . . . the one who had been directly in front of her.

Before I get into depth with this article I first want you to have a good understanding of what a ‘2 Tier’ affiliate program is and there advantages. Then from there I’ll go on to explain how you can start recruiting Sub-Affiliate’s by simply locating the Super-Affiliate’s within your Niche market.

First… lets define what a ‘2 Tier’ affiliate program is.

A ‘2 Tier’ affiliate program is simply a program that is designed to work on a 2 tier payment structure. And what I mean by that is that you’ll get paid on both the 1st tier(you) and 2nd tier(your sub-affiliates) of the program you choose to promote.

Now, with that said, let’s go a little deeper into what the advantages of a ‘2 Tier’ affiliate program are so that you’ll be able to visualize in your head why these programs are being considered the most Powerful programs on the Net and more importantly… how they can put Profits in your hand, on Auto-Pilot, 24/7/365 with little effort on your part.

Lets first talk about the advantages and for the purpose of this article I’m going to give you three of the main ones:

    1) - you get paid ‘Higher’ commissions on your 1st tier (usually between 25% - 65% depending on the vendor)

    2) - you have the ability to ‘Recruit’ sub-affiliates(your 2nd tier) to promote the program for you

    3) - and you can form ‘Joint Ventures’ with other website and/or list owners within your specified Niche market

Is the ‘Light-Bulb’ starting to flicker inside your head?

Are you starting to see WHY these programs are so Powerful and Versatile?

    I certainly hope so.

Now that you see the main advantages to these programs your probably asking yourself… “well, where can I find a complete listing of these programs so I don’t have to spend alot of time looking for them on the web?”

Well… it just so happens that I know of a few Top affiliate directories that have a complete searchable database full of ‘2 Tier’ affiliate programs in whatever category you are looking for.

I will list two of the of Top affiliate directories for the purposes of this article that I use to locate these programs:

    - 2 Tier Affiliate Directory

    http://www.2-tier.com

    - Associate Affiliate Directory

    http://www.associateprograms.com

I think these two directories alone will keep you busy.

There are many affiliate directories out there on the WWW, but these two I find are the most popular and have the best selection.

Now that you have an idea of what ‘2 Tier’ affiliate programs are, there advantages and where to locate these programs on the web lets talk about ‘How’ you can start recruiting some Sub-Affiliate’s within the next 24 hours by simply locating the Super-Affiliate’s within your Niche market via the search engines.

In order to do this exercise properly you’re going to need two Very important webmaster tools. These tools are Free so you don’t have to worry about paying anything up front or any monthly subscription fee’s for there use.

The 1st tool you need to get is the ‘Google Toolbar’. This toolbar is used to gauge a websites PR(Link Popularity) within the search engines. Generally, a website with a PR of 5 or higher are the types of websites you want to find and are where the Super-Affiliate’s usually reside.

Click the link I’ve provided below and install the toolbar.

And the 2nd tool you need to get is the ‘Alexa Toolbar’. This toolbar is used to gauge a websites overall Traffic Ranking. You’ll want to find websites with a traffic ranking of 50,000 or lower. This is where you’ll find the Super-Affiliate’s.

Click the link I’ve provided below and install the toolbar.

Now that you have those two tools installed on your computer you Now have the ability to find Super-Affiliate’s through gauging their websites overall ‘Traffic Ranking’ and ‘Link Popularity’ which brings use to the next step… “Locating the Super-Affiliates”.

A ‘Super-Affiliate’, just so you know, is simply a webmaster who has a high traffic website and/or a large targeted mailing list and has the ability to sell more in a day then you could in a month.

Generally, and this is just a guideline I use when contacting these webmasters, I look for websites with at least a PR of 5 and a Traffic Ranking of 50,000 or less. This way, if they don’t have a large mailing list they at least have a high traffic website or Visa-Versa.

This next step is where the fun begins because we’ll be using search engines to locate the Super-Affiliate’s and for this exercise lets go to the all famous ‘Google’ search engine at — http://www.google.com

Now… once the page loads simply type in the Keyword or Keywords or Keyword Phrase that targets your particular Niche market you are targeting within the search form Google provides.

For the purpose of this exercise lets use the keywords ‘internet marketing’.

By now you should be looking at a page full of listings under the Keywords or Keyword Phrase you targeted, which in this case was ‘internet marketing’.

Now, simply start clicking on the links that you think might make a good ‘Sub-Affiliate’ to the program you are recruiting for.

By using the two toolbars you installed earlier you’ll now be able to identify if this website is a Super-Affiliate by the websites overall ‘Link Popularity’ and ‘Traffic Ranking’ by using the guidelines I stated earlier.

If you like the web stats you see and you think they would make a suitable sub-affiliate to your program all you have to do from this point is look for the webmasters contact details listed on their website and send them a proposition to join your program.

If you can’t find there contact details on there website you can usually find them by using the ‘Alexa’ toolbar. Just click on the ‘Alexa’ button in the upper left corner of your browser. This will bring you to there main page. You’ll usually find there contact details listed mid-way down.

And if you’re worried about being accused of ‘Spamming’, well… you don’t have too simply because your not sending them an Unsolicited Advertisement, your sending them a Business Proposition.

    There’s a BIG difference.

Now, with that said, lets move on to the Final segment of this article… ‘Joint Ventures’.

‘Joint Ventures’ are simply an collaboration or partnership undertaken by two or more entities(webmasters) for a mutual gain, usually profit sharing.

Who make the best JV partners and Why?

Ezine/Newsletter owners make the best JV partners simply because they have already done all the work and have built highly targeted mailing lists. Some have Large lists and some have Small lists. Point being… they’re highly targeted to whatever Niche market you’re targeting.

How do ‘2 Tier’ affiliate programs work in this kind of arrangement?

They work just the same as recruiting website owners, but instead you’re strictly contacting list owners with highly targeted lists and propositioning them to join your program for a share of the profits.

Where can you find these Ezine/Newsletter owners?

You can find thousands of them on the WWW through Ezine/Newsletter directories, but I’ll only list just a few Top resources to save you the hassle.

    - Ezine Universe

    http://www.ezine-universe.com

    - Ezine Hub

    http://www.ezinehub.com

    - Go-Ezines

    http://www.go-ezines.com

    - Netter Web

    http://www.netterweb.com

    - Ezine Search

    http://www.ezinesearch.com

These directories have large searchable databases full of thousands of Ezine/Newsletters that target any category you are looking for to promote your program(s). And these are only a few of whats available to you on the Net.

Well… there you have it in a nut shell.

I just revealed to you some of the most Powerful marketing technique’s being used online today by many of the Top internet marketers and how they are able to build there Sub-Affiliate army’s and generate loads of Free targeted traffic to there websites without spending a penny on advertising.

And… the best part about this is… you can start doing the same within the Next 24 hours.

All businessmen know the importance of that last stage of selling which is called the “closing”. Such stage of selling will clinch the whole session. The same is true among online businesses, such as the affiliate marketing business. The affiliate must conduct such a closing by asking the client for the sale.

Unfortunately, the asking for the sale in online businesses, such as affiliate marketing is more challenging than the asking for the sale in a brick-and-mortar business. In land-bound business marketing, the salesmen can closely observe the target client’s movements of the body and the eyes so that he can gauge if it is time to close the sale or not. But in an online business, the closing of the sale will not be helped by the body language of the customer. Obviously, the affiliate cannot see the customer’s body posture.

And therein lies the problem for closing and asking for the sale. The affiliate has no means of knowing whether it is time to ask or not. The asking may be too early, when the customer is not convinced enough. Or the asking may be too late that the customer has already lost interest in the product.

In online businesses, such as affiliate marketing, the affiliate need not wait for signs. The affiliate should be gutsy enough to ask for the sale, whether it is time or not. And when the asking for the sale is too early, the target customer may decide to click on the back button and never come back. When the asking for the sale is too late, the target customer may already be exploring other websites.

Despite such a difficult situation, the affiliate must still ask for the sale. If he does not ask for the sale, some visitors will think that it is a government-sponsored website and all the information provided are free of charge. Perhaps the information is literally free in many articles. But such information is posted due to one single purpose - to make a sale.

Therefore, the affiliate should not just wait for the time when the visitor eventually realizes that he is expected to click on a link that will take him to the website of the merchant. The affiliate must indicate in his website and in his emails that what he has is a business and businesses involve selling. He should also state that the recipients of his emails are not obligated to buy immediately. These recipients can make their purchases later.

Peter Garant’s affiliate marketing site offers unique web content to webmasters who wants to maximize traffic and revenue on their affiliate sites.
